Time and bookmarks
The time window
Every lens shows one window of time, named in the time bar along the bottom: 15m ● live is the last fifteen minutes, following the clock. Moving the window back stops it following; going live starts again.
| Do | Mouse, on the time bar | Keys |
|---|---|---|
| Move the window | drag | |
| Scrub back or forward a quarter of the span | [ and ], or Ctrl+T then Left or Right | |
| Scrub a whole span | { and } | |
| Show a shorter or longer span | wheel, about the pointer | Ctrl+T then Up or Down |
| Go live | click the legend | Ctrl+T then n |
| Last 15m, 1h, 6h, 1d or 7d | Ctrl+T then 1 to 5 |
After Ctrl+T the chord stays armed for a second, so Ctrl+T then Left, Left, Left scrubs three steps.
Any span, from the palette:
>time.last span=30m
>time.last span=2h until=2026-09-26T03:00:00Z
or typed plainly: last 2h, since 09:00 (palette).
Back and forward
Each focus, lens switch, filter and bookmark visited is a place in history, like a browser's. Backspace goes back and Shift+Backspace forward; so do the mouse's right and side buttons.
Bookmarks
A bookmark keeps where you are: the lens, the camera, the focus, the filter, whether merged entities show apart, and the time window. A live window stays live, so a bookmark of live 1h always shows the last hour.
>place.save name=work
>place.go name=work
>place.rename name=work to=storefront
>place.delete name=storefront
In the palette, @ lists bookmarks, then the places you left recently. Bookmarks are kept in places.yaml, on Linux usually ~/.local/state/wayseer/places.yaml (where files are kept).
Sharing bookmarks
Bookmarks can be exported to a file and imported by someone else, so a team can start from the same places. The file holds only places: never your config, module options or keys.
>place.export file=~/team.yaml
>place.export file=~/team.yaml names=work,incident
>place.import file=~/team.yaml
>place.import file=~/team.yaml replace=true
In the palette, a file is under your home folder unless it starts with /. The same works from a terminal, even while Wayseer is running; it sees the new bookmarks the next time the palette opens:
wayseer bookmarks export team.yaml work incident
wayseer bookmarks import team.yaml
wayseer bookmarks import --replace team.yaml
An import never loses one of your own bookmarks. When a name is already used, yours is kept and the imported one is added as work-2; with replace=true or --replace the imported one takes its place. A bookmark already saved exactly as imported is left as it is. A file with a mistake or an unknown field is refused, naming the file and the line, and nothing is imported.
A bookmark may focus an entity your modules don't show, such as a host only a teammate watches. It is kept, and opens without focus until that entity appears.
0 goes home: the bookmark the config names, or else a view of everything.
